I know a little bit about medicine, hospital care, health services and personnel.
I graduated from nursing school, a hospital diploma program in 1966.
Also in 1966, our federal government presided over the institution of Medicare, which was a law, The Medicare Act, passed in 1965, to promote the ‘general welfare’. (That clause in the Constitution really wasn’t meant for Medicare).
I remember instruction from our hospital’s Controller to my nursing class, discussing the changes he understood that would be wrought by this new law. It included the requirement for ‘social workers’ (a new position in hospital care). Housekeepers and clerical job holders were placed in this new job position in our hospital. It was the beginning of a bloated out of control health care system.
Today we are on the threshold of a complete takeover of our healthcare by the federal government. Tyranny. Social medicine.
In the following 9 minute You Tube, Milton Freemon discusses such socialized medicine and what it means to us. Amazing! The man was a genius. This discussion took place in 1978 in a speech at the Mayo Clinic.
Watch it several times. I needed to.
I think we have arrived at the point he is discussing.
