Alice: “It would be so nice if something made sense for a change.”

After reading a post by JTR today, I realized I feel like Alice, lost in Wonderland.

Our country, the entire world doesn’t make much sense anymore.

It feels like a bad dream. How did we get here? Will we ever get back home?

Here are a few quotes from the work, Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carrol.

To me, they fit the here and now.

Rabbit
Oh my ears and whiskers, how late it’s getting!

Alice
Curiouser and curiouser!

Alice
I wonder if I’ve been changed in the night? Let me think. Was I the same when I got up this morning? I almost think I can remember feeling a little different. But if I’m not the same, the next question is ‘Who in the world am I?’ Ah, that’s the great puzzle!

The Cat
We’re all mad here.

The Queen
Off with her head!

The Mock Turtle
Reeling and Writhing, of course, to begin with, and then the different branches of arithmetic — Ambition, Distraction, Uglification, and Derision.

The Mock Turtle
Well, I never heard it before, but it sounds uncommon nonsense.

The King
Begin at the beginning and go on till you come to the end: then stop.

Alice
I don’t believe there’s an atom of meaning in it.

The Queen
Sentence first — verdict afterwards.

Alice
You’re nothing but a pack of cards!

The Queen
Now, I give you fair warning, either you or your head must be off, and that in about half no time! Take your choice!

Mad Hatter
No wonder you’re late. Why, this watch is exactly two days slow.

Alice
Let me see: four times five is twelve, and four times six is thirteen, and four times seven is — oh dear! I shall never get to twenty at that rate!

Alice
It was much pleasanter at home, when one wasn’t always growing larger and smaller, and being ordered about by mice and rabbits.

The Duchess
There’s a large mustard-mine near here. And the moral of that is — The more there is of mine, the less there is of yours.

We’ve been plunged into the rabbit hole and they’re all mad.

*Ok, tomorrow I’ll try to post something mentally sound.

  2. Thanks for the link, partner, as well as the honor of being inspiration for a post!
It’s pretty crazy out there right now…and Obama’s speech today didn’t make it one iota saner.

    By the way:
After reading all those quotes, I might have to peek at my copy of “Through the Looking-Glass, and What Alice Found There”.
Bet I haven’t cracked the spine in years.

Wonderland was always a bit like the psych unit I worked in. I know it’s supposed to have a more positive meaning but to me, it doesn’t. It’s the perfect metaphor to our world today.
You’re welcome! Always try to read your posts. And those of your sis.

      • I agree about its usefulness as a metaphor nowadays, but it takes me back a few years. Just not one of those authors that I ever re-read…and usually I re-read most of them.
        🙂
So, your use of “Alice” made me dust off a book which might have sat on my shelf indefinitely.

Oh, by the way, the two of us appreciate SO much your readership, friendship, and your insight…
And I love stopping by HERE, as well!

Rabit hole indeed. Like where to them making sense is actually being nonesensical or the opposite. I’d swear that natural law has absolutely no meaning to them, but to try to challenge or distort it.

I’ve got to get back to reading that book. “The Kindergarten of Evil: How the Modern Liberal Thinks”.
It describes why and how progs ignore any values, such as morals, achievement, faith. Fascinating.
Thanks so much for your visit and comments.
