The Incarnate Logos
“The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us.”
“The Jews were amazed and asked, “How did this man get such learning without having studied?”
Jesus answered, “My teaching is not my own. It comes from him who sent me.If anyone chooses to do God’s will, he will find out whether my teaching comes from God or whether I speak on my own.He who speaks on his own does so to gain honor for himself, but he who works for the honor of the one who sent him is a man of truth; there is nothing false about him.”
(John 7:15–18 NIV)
The Jews were amazed! at Jesus’ teaching, in particular, his knowledge of the Old Testament. This, even though Jesus never attended rabbinic school.
Jesus confronts the Jewish religious leaders and the leaders are amazed! at this uneducated man! But this is the Word! He IS the Word of God!
Jesus teaches with authority! and Jesus explains this in verse 16: “My teaching is not my own. It comes from him who sent me.”
But Jesus also gives them the one way they can validate what he says!
“If anyone chooses to do God’s will, he will find out whether my teaching comes from God or whether I speak on my own.”
Obedience! When we come to God submitting to his authority, we will find that Jesus is who he says he is and his Words are Truth, that they originate with the Father.
Jesus also indicated a human truth. The ego of man is huge. When we have knowledge, skill, we are quite proud of ourselves. But Jesus is showing that the honor goes to his Father, the one who sent him. Thus, Jesus, in not taking credit for the knowledge and skill, is a man of truth. What he says is true.
This is all true for us all. We, in submitting our wills to God, obeying him, we will find validation of Jesus’ words and that they are from God, the Father.
Try him. He is and will be faithful to what he says. I know, He has proved it to me.
