An Open Letter to the Republicans in Congress

Checking out “An Open Letter to the Republicans in Congress” on Tea Party Nation:

Dear Republican Senators and Congressmen,

By the end of today most of you will be fleeing Washington to escape what Al Gore calls global warming and the rest of us who are sane call August.

As you go back to your states and to your districts to talk to your constituents, family and friends, you should spend a few minutes thinking about what will happen when you return and what you should do about it.

When you return, the two most important issues of recent times will be yours to decide. You can decide to defund Obamacare and fight with the Obama Regime to save America from what even Democrat Max Baucus called a “train wreck,” or you can surrender to the Democrats again.

You can either defeat Amnesty or you can surrender to the Democrats and pass Amnesty, thus guaranteeing a Democrat majority in government for at least a generation and possibly forever.

The Tea Party is made up of millions of individual activists and thousands of groups. No one speaks for this movement but I feel confident in telling you there is not a single Tea Party activist out there that supports funding for Obamacare nor is there a Tea Party activist who supports Amnesty.

Earlier this week, the Pew Research Center for the People and the Press conducted a survey that showed a majority of Republicans want the party to be more conservative.

That is what we in the Tea Party want. We want a return to the Constitution. We want limited government. We want government shrunk and reduced to its original purposes. We want the kind of government our founding fathers envisioned that was work to ensure freedom and liberty for Americans and otherwise stay out of their lives and out of their way.

The Republican Party has gotten into a very bad habit of coming home and telling the voters how conservative they are and then go back to Washington and to do just the opposite.

So as you enjoy your vacation this August, there is something you need to think about.

If you listen to the Republican Establishment and choose to surrender and fund Obamacare; and if you to sell America out with Amnesty, we conservatives will be done with you.

Many of the liberal Republicans like Lamar Alexander and Lindsay Graham go back to their states and tell the Republicans, vote for me or Democrats will be in the majority.

Can you tell me what the difference between having Lamar Alexander or Lindsay Graham and a Democrat is?

There isn’t any.

There are a lot of us in the Tea Party who are fed up with being sold out by the Republican Party.

In 2009, the Tea Party sprang into existence because of the policies of the Democrat Party and because the Republican Party would not stand up against them. We put the Republicans back in charge in the House and but for some Democrat fraud, we might have had the Senate too.

If the Republicans want to ignore the conservative base, we can go elsewhere. We can stay home. The GOP establishment ensured that Mitt Romney, the most liberal candidate ever became the nominee. Conservatives stayed home and what should have been a slam-dunk for a Republican instead turned into another embarrassing GOP loss.

If the GOP is going to sell us out again, it will be time to head to the door. If the Republican Party will not stand up and defund Obamacare and will not stand up and defeat Amnesty, then many of us are going to find alternatives.

Perhaps that means we will split the vote and more Democrats will win. But what will happen if Nancy Pelosi becomes Speaker again? Will we have higher spending? Will we have Amnesty? Will we have Obamacare fully funded? Wait, we are about to get all of those things with John Boehner as speaker.

Someone tell me what the difference between the two is.

What if a few million Tea Party activists started a new party or went to an existing third party? After all, the GOP establishment already wants to give us either Jeb Bush or Chris Christie to challenge Hillary Clinton in 2016.

That isn’t much of a choice.

Republican Congressmen and Senators, the choice is yours. You and the GOP establishment seem to want as Rush Limbaugh said, a base that does not include the Tea Party.

If you sell out the conservative base one more time, you won’t have a conservative base to worry about any longer. You will get your wish.

I have been a Republican since I was 13 years old in 1972 when I went out for the first time and put out Richard Nixon signs. I have been involved in the grassroots since then. I have been a member of my county party where I lived since I was an adult, except for the three years I was in law school. I have served on county committees and I have run for office as a Republican.

Today, I feel like Ronald Reagan did. I have not left the party. The party is leaving me.

Republican Senators and Congressmen, when you come back from the August Recess, you will have to make some decisions. You will have to choose whether you want to vote for Obama or whether you will vote for Americans. You will have to choose whether you will support the Democrats and the left or whether you will support the base that put you in office. You will have to choose whether you will support what you claim you believe in or whether your choice will mean the end of the Republican Party and the end of America.

Choose well.
