The Birth of the Messiah, Christmas

Today is Christmas eve. We are celebrating the coming of God to mortal man as a human baby. Why has God done this? To save us from death, to reconcile us with God.

Yeshua, the Hebrew name for Jesus means ‘salvation’ or ‘God saves’.

Actually, when you read the Hebrew word, Yshu’a (which is the transliteration of לישועה) in the Hebrew throughout the Old Testament you read the word ‘salvation’. Try it. Find the word salvation throughout the Old Testament and say the Hebrew pronunciation of the word in the verse:

Psa. 118:14 The LORD is my strength and my song;
he has become my salvation. The word for salvation here is yshu’a. The LORD is my strength and my song; he has become my Yeshua.
Psa. 118:14 עזי וזמרת יה ויהי לי לישועה

Yeshua (Jesus, God’s Salvation) was born in Bethlehem. Micah the prophet predicted the Messiah would be born in the lowly town of Bethlehem.

“But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times.’”
(Micah 5:2 NIV)

Ephrathah is the ancient name of Bethlehem. The family line of Jesus, both Joseph’s and Mary’s line) have many roots in Bethlehem or Ephrathah. Rachel was buried on the road to Bethlehem. Ruth and Boaz had a son there, Obed, who was David’s grandfather. David was born there. In the Hebrew, Ephrathah means fruitful.

And what does Bethlehem mean?
בית לחם the word for bet lechem or, house of bread. Bethlehem.

“In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. (This was the first census that took place while Quirinus was governor of Syria.) And everyone went to his own town to register.
So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.”
(Luke 2:1–7 NIV)

Yeshua, God’s salvation was born in the House of Bread, Bethlehem, and placed in an eating trough, a manger that the animals eat out of.

Jesus said:
“I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. This bread is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.”
(John 6:51 NIV)

“Now thanks be to God for His Gift, [precious] beyond telling [His indescribable, inexpressible, free Gift]!”
(2 Corinthians 9:15 AMP)

Father, I am so grateful. Your love is unfathomable. Your grace is so beyond human understanding. You tore your own Son from the very heart of yourself and gave him to us, to live as one of us and to die for all of our evils and to bring us back to you. How can I ever thank you except to follow you?
