It always bothers me when I see Medicaid lumped in with Medicare as an entitlement. As a nation – thanks to the purposeful efforts of the crafty Left – we’ve stopped distinguishing between something that is an entitlement because we’ve paid into it and something that’s an entitlement just because we think it should be free to us. Once those lines are blurred we take another giant step towards becoming a socialist nation, where the producers pay for everything while the takers take what they want.

Husband and I had close to that very conversation this morning after I posted this, CW. He’s very bothered by Social Security especially, looking like a social handout program when we have paid into it for about 50 years.

I believe that even though we’ve ‘paid into it’, it was just a pyramid scheme that fooled us all. All of this time we’ve been paying just another tax that goes into the federal pot and is used for more spending. We don’t have our own accounts. The money never made much of anything. If we had been allowed to keep all of that money and invest it ourselves we’d have a small fortune today.

They lie to us with every breath they take. Whether we like it or not we are pretty much a socialist nation with the highest taxes in the world. But then we’re the wealthiest nation too so we can afford to be stupid with our money. And our votes.

      I’m crying here.

We won’t be able to afford the stupidity much longer.

I most definitely agree that Social Security is a pyramid scheme and the money that we’ve paid has been squandered on other programs, as could have been easily predicted. The monetary consequence of this scheme is going to come due sooner or later. It’s just a question of who suffers the most.
