Actually, It’s the Religious Left That’s Dying

Grace and truth cannot be separated without doing immeasurable harm to one or the other.

It’s worth reading the Nashville Statement of Biblical Sexuality.

The Statement has 11 Articles that define Christian belief about God’s design and creation of humans, men and women. It has always been part of our faith from the beginning of Genesis 1:1 til the end of Revelation 22:21. If you believe in the faith of Christianity, you believe the Bible as the infallible Word of our God and it’s revelation of God and his character to us. It’s indisputable. If you can dispute any of the Bible the Word from God has become stretchable, elastic, much like leftists in our country stretch and refute our Constitution.

Well, the ‘progressive’ Christian leaders’ of our time who make up theological professors, leaders of progressive denominations, have decided these Words from the Bible can be ‘stretched’. We cannot stay true to our conservative beliefs and to what our Bible says because, well, contemporary sexual freedoms like transgenderism, homosexualism, and many other sexual freedoms. Face it:  as humans we love sex. And deciding there are not stops on our sexual freedoms makes us able to ‘enjoy’ it more!

So, these Christian leaders are telling us that our churches are losing members, youth in droves. People are leaving our churches and the faithful are dwindling in size because we are waging ‘cheap’ war on homosexuals and transgenders. We are on the precipice of extinction.

Well, au contraire, mon frère. It’s Conservative churches that are thriving. Those considered fanatics about their faith. Those who live by the grace espoused in the Bible. We acknowledge our Lord Jesus as our God and we follow, stumbling and falling and getting up to follow again. But we follow. And we know right from wrong because we know the Bible. Moral law is real. And God is unable to allow sin, immorality. But for the salvation from Jesus we are all doomed.

It’s the conservative churches who are growing by leaps and bounds. The fastest growing churches in America are conservative. The fastest growing denominations are conservative and the large declines are happening in the liberal churches.

According to Michael Brown:

…The most thriving, growing churches in the world hold to conservative sexual ethics.

…churches like the once influential GracePointe in Franklin, Tennessee have seen a massive decline in numbers after embracing same-sex “marriage.” GracePointe lost as much as 80 percent of its membership in recent years.

I have no problem with leaders wishing that the Nashville Statement made reference to the many sins in our own camp, such as rampant divorce and pornography. Or that it confessed our past failings to reach out compassionately to those who identify as LGBT.

But the reality is this. If the religious left departs from the clear testimony of Scripture, it will lack the blessing of God. And to that extent it will fail to do the very thing it wants to do: namely, reach a hurt and dying world with the message of forgiveness and transformation.

Numbers in decline or increase don’t always prove anything but in this case progressive theologians are just wrong. Their numbers show that fundamental beliefs in our faith actual grow our churches. And staying true to our faith brings salvation and more people to hear about that salvation:  The Great commission of Christ.

Beware the leftists in any organization.
